OpenAI has unveiled its ambitious Stargate plan, a $500 billion initiative to develop next-generation data centers capable of handling advanced AI training and inference workloads. Backed by Oracle and other major investors, the project received early support from former President Donald TRUMP upon its January 2025 announcement.

The company commits to fully funding local energy infrastructure at each Stargate site, with customized solutions ranging from new power generation to grid expansions. "We're building energy plans based on community needs," stated an OpenAI representative, addressing concerns about AI's growing electricity demands.

This MOVE mirrors Microsoft's recent water conservation strategy for US data centers, signaling a broader industry trend toward sustainable AI infrastructure. Both tech giants now pledge to cover their full energy costs while collaborating with utilities on grid improvements.
